Why Is My Dog Barking? Take the 60-Second Quiz

Updated October 31, 2026 · General information, not veterinary advice

Answer three quick questions and we'll match your dog's barking to its most likely cause, with the first three steps to try. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.

1. When does your dog bark the most?
2. What else do you notice? (pick the closest)
3. How old is your dog?

How the quiz works

The quiz is based on the barking types described by vets and certified trainers: alert, attention, boredom, anxiety, reactivity and excitement. When and where your dog barks is the biggest clue. Body language and age help separate look-alikes, such as boredom barking from separation anxiety, or ordinary night barking from age-related confusion in senior dogs.
